Lisa Rainey

Lisa Rainey grew up in a social environment with parents who encouraged engaging in new situations and company. She was able to travel from an early age with her family, and be immersed in different cultures. Her father a linguist, and her mother an artist and writer, taught her to love and experience love by the way they lived their lives. God came first in her home, and through that she developed a relationship with Christ. In turn, she receives spiritual inspiration and wishes to relate the love she has received from her family and her relationship with Christ through her paintings.

Because much of her life has brought about lessons of love and connection with others, it is of no coincidence that Rainey has favored portraiture. She values being able to paint from life because it allows her to capture moments that are more in the present, strengthening her relationships with those that she paints. She believes her strongest paintings are those that are completed quickly, without overworking. She allows her intuition to carry her through the experience with others and bring about unexpected outcomes.

Her attachment to portraiture is also directly related to the discovery of herself through others. She is able to examine her attitudes and thoughts in relation to her relationships with others as she feels that every relationship in life is a potential for learning. She feels that we are all spiritually connected through our actions and thoughts. As Rainey paints mostly from life, she benefits from the interactions she has from her models not merely through conversation but from the more silent moments that are rare and beautifully vulnerable. In silence we realize our insecurities and walls are let down in the process. Sharing these moments through painting, bring to light what sometimes is hidden.

Lisa Rainey attended the Laguna College of Art and Design for four years, and has taken time since to develop her style and her body of work. When she is not conversing and painting, she likes to connect with people through other creative expression, such as dance and writing.
